How does the Snoozester service work?

Students log on to a custom, university sponsored site using their individually created username and password. They register their phone numbers using our secure verification process, and begin scheduling wake up calls and reminder calls to their phones.

What is a wake up call?

A wake up call is a scheduled telephone call at the requested date and time, used as means of waking up.

What is a reminder call?

A reminder call is a scheduled telephone call at the requested date and time, used as means to remind you about various events such as “Term paper due by midnight” or “Dentist appointment tomorrow at 8:00”. The content of the call is customizable and the audio is created via Snoozester’s advanced text-to-speech technology.

What types of phones can be used with the service?

Any U.S. or Canadian phone number- calls can be scheduled to mobile phones, dorm phones, home phones, and VoIP phones.

It seems like students can use the system to harass people! How do you prevent misuse of the service?

We value the safety and privacy of your students. We have put two measures in place to discourage misuse of our service:
  1. Verification Calls: Before students can use a phone number with the service, they are required to verify that phone number. The verification process is very easy and it only takes about one minute - the service calls the number and prompts the recipient of the call to indicate whether or not they requested the call. Students can begin scheduling calls immediately after the phone number has been verified.
  2. Blocking Unrequested Calls: Every call ends with the following message: "If you did not request this call, press 9" -- doing so will give the recipient of the call the option to have their number blocked so that they do not receive any further calls.

Why would a student not just use their cell phones or another alarm?
  1. You can set up your entire alarm schedule once in the beginning of the year to call you at the same time everyday and coincide with your normal wakeup schedule.
  2. Cell phone and other alarms tend to be very restrictive causing you to have to reset it each day while remembering to turn it on.
  3. Students can also take advantage of the SecureAwake function when scheduling their wake up calls. SecureAwake wake up calls attempt to call students every 2-3 minutes until they answer the phone and press 1 to indicate that they are awake. This feature is very popular with heavy-sleepers who are rarely roused by their alarm clocks and rely on additional methods to help them get out of bed.
  4. We have found that people in general respond more urgently to a telephone call, as opposed to a general alarm clock.
  5. Most beneficial is the reminder calls, where students can hear information over their phone about specific events, meetings, and exams that they scheduled.
  6. They can also remain up to date on school sponsored events or messages by hearing them during their wake up calls.
  7. Some heavy-sleepers need more tools to rely on in order to supplement their existing alarm clock

What will a student hear when they receive their calls?

How do students access the service?

How many calls can a student schedule?

There is no limit to the amount of calls a student wants to schedule.

Is there a restriction on which students can use this service?

The service is not limited to any student and will be enabled for all students that you would like to be able to gain access to the site to schedule calls. It can be all students, off-campus students, residence hall students, undergraduates, freshmen, etc.

Can faculty use the service as well?

Sure! Participating schools may offer the service to any and all members of the school's community - including faculty and staff. Snoozester requests a list of authorized users at the beginning of each semester.

Can we add or remove students' access to the service?

Schools can add and remove students' access by providing Snoozester with a list of students who are eligible for the service at the beginning of each semester. Snoozester also provides university staff with access to an administrative interface. This interface allows university staff to add or remove students' accounts at any time.

Do we need to buy any special hardware / software / phone lines?

No additional hardware or software is necessary. The service is hosted entirely on Snoozester's advanced network.

Who else needs to be involved?

Only the administrators who are needed to approve the new program. Since we do all of our own hosting, support, IT work, the IT department does not need to take on any additional responsibilities.

Who supports the service? What happens if students need assistance with the service?

Students can contact Snoozester's support team with any questions or support related issues they may have. Snoozester provides support via email; students can submit support requests using the support form on the service website.

How do you plan to market the product?

We have various different options for schools to participate in upon request, and there is no limit to the amount of ways in which we can market it.

How do we ensure that our students' information is kept private?

Security and privacy of personal information is our highest priority. All Snoozester servers are hosted in state-of-the-art, secure data centers. Additionally, the website is accessible via the https (secured/encrypted) protocol.
